Common Refusal Reasons
❌ 1. Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Failure
The most common reason for Student Visa (Subclass 500) and Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) refusals. The case officer is not convinced that the applicant intends to stay temporarily. They may cite weak economic ties to the home country, previous immigration history, or inconsistencies in the applicant's statement.
✅ Solution: Provide comprehensive evidence of ties to your home country (property ownership, ongoing employment, family ties). Write a highly detailed, personalized GTE statement that addresses any gaps in your history.
❌ 2. Insufficient Financial Proof
The applicant failed to demonstrate they have genuine access to sufficient funds to support themselves (and any dependents) during their stay in Australia. This often happens if large, unexplained deposits appear in bank accounts just before applying.
✅ Solution: Show a consistent history of savings over at least 3-6 months. If funds were recently gifted or transferred, provide a clear, documented paper trail explaining the source of the funds and a statutory declaration from the financial sponsor.
❌ 3. Fraudulent or Misleading Information (PIC 4020)
Under Public Interest Criterion (PIC) 4020, providing bogus documents or false/misleading information will result in an automatic refusal and a 3 to 10-year ban on future applications.
✅ Solution: Never provide fake documents. Always double-check every field on your application. If a genuine mistake was made, notify the Department immediately using Form 1023 (Notification of Incorrect Answer(s)) before a decision is made.
❌ 4. Failure to Meet Health or Character Requirements
Applicants must pass rigorous health and character checks. Refusals occur if an applicant has a substantial criminal record (sentenced to 12 months or more in prison) or a medical condition that would be a significant cost to the Australian healthcare system.
✅ Solution: Disclose all criminal history upfront. For health issues, in some visa categories, a health waiver may be available if you can prove compelling and compassionate circumstances.
❌ 5. Employer Nomination Refused
For employer-sponsored visas (Subclass 482, 186), if the employer's nomination is refused (e.g., failure to meet Labour Market Testing or demonstrate genuine need), the associated visa application will automatically be refused.
✅ Solution: Ensure the sponsoring company provides a robust business case, strictly adheres to Labour Market Testing (LMT) regulations (advertising exactly as legally prescribed), and meets the Annual Market Salary Rate (AMSR).
